Institute 193
http://www.institute193.org
Institute 193 collaborates with artists, musicians, and writers to produce exhibitions, publications, and projects that document the cultural landscape of the modern South.
Founded in 2009, Institute 193 embraces the notion that groundbreaking contemporary art can and does emerge outside of large metropolitan centers.
Institute 193 provides artists from Kentucky and the Southeastern United States—selected not by commercial viability, but by the quality and relevance of their work—with exhibition and publication opportunities. It also endeavors to help these artists gain broader media exposure and foster connections in art markets across the globe.
Institute 193’s gallery space is located in Lexington, Kentucky, a mid-sized city with a vibrant creative community that, nevertheless, lacks a museum for contemporary art. Institute 193 fills this void by hosting musical performances, film screenings, lectures, and other community-driven events in addition to visual art exhibitions.
Institute 193 also participates in art fairs across the country in a direct effort to expose innovative Southern artists to the world at large, serving as an ambassador for the region and ultimately providing a foundation for a contemporary art center in Lexington.
Lexington Dream Factory
www.lexingtondreamfactory.org
The Lexington Dream Factory Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to granting dreams of children ages 3 to 18 with critical and severe chronic illnesses in the Lexington, Southern and Eastern Kentucky area. In 2013, our chapter will celebrate its 25 anniversary. During that time we have granted nearly 700 dreams. We are proud that more than 90% of the funds donated to the Lexington Dream Factory go directly to granting local dreams.
Be The Match
www.marrow.org
Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with blood cancers such as leukemia or lymphoma, sickle cell anemia, or other life-threatening diseases. Many of these patients will die without a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of these people do not have a matching donor within their family and rely on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life.
Be The Match is a non-profit organization operated by the National Marrow Donor Program and has been in operation since 2009. Be The Match has grown to more than 10 million donors, the largest and most racially and ethnically diverse registry of its kind in the world. It relies solely on donations and volunteers to run various donor drives across the country, adding potential donors across various ethnicities and backgrounds.
